BSG Season 1 Pistol Prop

(as seen in the reimagined Battlestar Galactica TV series)

Battlestar Galactica had always been a show I enjoyed. I built a couple of models years ago and considered trying to make a helmet prop. Of course I never did. When the new version of the show came out in 2004 I thought it might be good to make something from that.

I picked up a cast prop of the handgun from the first season and then later got one from the second season (and later). These are hollow and made of rotary molded black plastic/resin. They are excellent quality with few surface flaws. Interstingly, I had some trouble importing the season 2 version into Australia under our very strict firearms laws. Because it looks so much like the gun it is based on, it is considered to be that gun under the act. I had to obtain a police licence to get customs to release it.

This handgun was based on an actual working revolver with pieces added to cover much of the gun. It had to be partially disassembled to reload between takes.

Some small bits of surface work need to be done plus a couple of tiny modifications then the whole thing needs to be painted to look like gunmetal and wood. I hope I'm up to it.

More when I can back to writing this.
